5 Indoor Plants That Purify Your Home’s Air

Indoor air pollution from paints, furniture and electronics builds up in closed spaces — and plants are nature’s answer. Here are five that genuinely make a difference.

1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

The snake plant converts CO₂ to oxygen even at night — making it perfect for bedrooms. It removes formaldehyde, benzene and xylene, and thrives in almost any light condition.

2. Peace Lily

NASA’s Clean Air Study ranked the Peace Lily among the top air purifiers. It removes ammonia, benzene and formaldehyde, and adds humidity to dry indoor air — great during Mumbai winters.

3. Pothos (Money Plant)

Fast-growing, nearly impossible to kill, and an excellent air purifier. Pothos filters carbon monoxide and formaldehyde. Trail it across a shelf or let it climb a moss pole.

4. Spider Plant

A NASA favourite that removes up to 90% of airborne formaldehyde. It also absorbs odours and fumes. The bonus: it produces little “spiderettes” you can propagate and gift.

5. Rubber Plant

Bold, glossy leaves and effective at absorbing airborne bacteria and mould spores. Keep it in a bright corner and let it dry between waterings.

All five are available at GVIR Nursery. Visit us or reach out to find the right plant for your space.
