The Monstera Deliciosa — with its dramatic split leaves — is one of the most photographed plants in the world. Beautiful and relatively easy to care for, it grows into a striking statement piece. Here’s how to keep yours happy in Mumbai.
Light Requirements
Monstera loves bright, indirect light. An east-facing window is ideal — gentle morning light, shade in the afternoon. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun which scorches the leaves.
Watering in Mumbai’s Climate
Mumbai’s humidity naturally reduces how often you need to water. During monsoon, water very sparingly — check that the top 2 inches of soil are dry first. In drier months, water every 7–10 days. Always ensure drainage holes.
The Split Leaves
Young Monstera plants start with whole leaves. The splits (fenestrations) develop as the plant matures. If new leaves come out whole on an older plant, it usually needs more light.
Common Problems
Yellow leaves = overwatering. Brown crispy edges = low humidity or direct sun. Drooping = thirsty.
